“Why would we get a tax form from Amazon?” the assistant asked, incredulous.

“Because we have to pay taxes,” he explained plainly.

“On what?”  She hates being called an ‘assistant.’

It might seem a strange thing to get excited about, but this is the first time we’ve had to declare book royalties on income taxes. This envelope represents an ability to say to the IRS, “Hey, I’m an author!”

You know—before they drag me out of the building, and I remember to be happy that they don’t know about The Tick’s Big Tax Time Terror.

This form doesn’t put me in a new tax bracket or anything like that.  It really is more symbolic than anything else.  Though, if anyone wants to help change that… there’s stuff!
